State sees big gain in sales tax revenue

State sales tax collections last month were up 6.8 percent from a year earlier, in a growing rebound of one of the key sources of general fund revenue.

Comptroller Susan Combs said Wednesday the state collected $1.6 billion in September, up about $100 million from a year earlier.

Short-term note sale yields $28 billion for Texas

Texas had its best short-term note sale in the state’s history this week, according to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs.

The sale of $5.5 billion in tax and revenue anticipation notes on Aug. 25 achieved an interest rate of 0.48 percent — the lowest rate the state has ever received on its annual sale of short-term notes, Combs said.
