Comptroller kicks off re-election effort with $3,800,000 in the bank

Comptroller Susan Combs, who announced her campaign for re-election last month, announced impressive fundraising numbers today in advance of the July 15th deadline for campaign finance reports covering the first six months of the year. Combs raised $512,076 from June 22 to June 30. Statewide elected officials were under a fundraising ban for the remainder of the reporting period due to the legislative session.

"Comptroller Combs has strong financial and grassroots support, and an impeccable record of reform that includes making state spending more transparent, and eliminating $40 million in duplicative or wasteful spending," said campaign spokesman Eric Bearse. "Susan Combs knows only one way to run a campaign: full bore and fully funded."

Combs has been elected three times statewide, each time with double-digit margins. She was elected state comptroller in 2006 with 59.47 percent of the vote, winning 232 of Texas' 254 counties.

Combs' fundraising prowess is matched by a strong organization of grassroots support, and is rolling out the first phase of her Leadership Team that, just 40 days after announcing her re-election bid, has 380 members in more than 200 counties across Texas. Combs has also received support from 24 associations that represent a diverse mix of Texans from across the state.
