Texans are projected to save millions in state and local sales taxes during the upcoming "Energy Star Sales Tax Holiday," Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said this week.
Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, May 29-31, the tax holiday exempts shoppers from paying taxes on certain energy-efficient products and appliances.
“If you’ve had your eye on a new appliance, or just want to stock up on light bulbs, you can save money by shopping this weekend,” Combs said. Her office estimates that shoppers statewide will save about $3 million this year.
Appliances with the Energy Star label, which include air conditioners, refrigerators, ceiling fans, dishwashers and programmable thermostats, are eligible for the tax break.
The tax holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, and ends at 11:59 p.m. May 31.
