More job training for Texas workers may soon be on the way, thanks to a bill passed by the Texas Legislature.
A $25 million JET, or the Jobs and Education for Texans fund, was created to help with workforce development programs.
Money will be aimed at training the unemployed and underemployed for high demand jobs.
Texas State Comptroller Susan Combs held a press conference thanking lawmakers for their bipartisan support on the bill.
She said Texas' diverse economy creates a diverse need for job training and young people need to be prepared to face future challenges.
"We do need to work harder to make sure young people are economically successful in the future," Combs said.
Five million dollars from the fund will also go to scholarships.
Texas already has some workforce development programs, such as QUEST and VIDA, which have a 92 percent job retention rate.
Gov. Rick Perry has not yet signed the bill.
The bill is HB 1935.
