Cisco College is one of 22 community colleges across the state set to receive grants from Texas Comptroller Susan Combs to boost career and technical education for fast-growing industries.
Cisco will receive $135,300 for equipment for the biology technician and biotechnology laboratory technician programs. The Job Building Fund grant for all schools will total $3.84 million.
“This money will help schools buy specialized equipment and training materials to support work force development programs, continuing education training courses, and certificate and associate degree programs experiencing rapidly increasing enrollment,” Combs said in a news release Monday.
This is the grant's third round of funding, according to the news release.
Schools that receive Job Building Fund grants must provide matching funds in the form of cash, equipment, materials, supplies and possibly personnel costs, the news release states.
Projects were selected based on the potential economic return to the state and on dual-credit programs with local high schools or other colleges. Priority was given to projects that target high-demand occupations and new or emerging industries.
