Easy to Pay & Hard to Cheat

"Easy to pay" are words we are working hard to live by. At the Comptroller’s office, we are revamping our payment collection processes so that taxpayers can pay their tax bills and file for their tax returns online. Paying online is not only easier for you, but cheaper for Texas. Online payments mean the state’s revenues flow in more efficiently, thereby getting you more value for your tax dollars.

"Hard to cheat?" We've cracked down on those who are trying to cheat taxpayers and drive up your tax bill. In 2007, my office teamed up with the state Legislature to pass a new law that will help prevent cheating on sales tax receipts in convenience stores and by other sellers of alcohol and tobacco.

This legislation requires vendors and distributors to provide my office with specific inventory information about the products they deliver to these stores each month. We can then match these data with sales tax receipts to make sure that consumers are not being cheated. Since September 2007, this new tool has been ensuring compliance with tax law, and is saving you money as a result.
