Susan Combs

Dear Friends,

I want you to be among the first to know: I am running for re-election and running hard!

I have the best job in state government as your Comptroller of Public Accounts – I scour agency budgets for savings, and post spending online for all taxpayers to see. As a fiscal conservative, I can’t think of a better job than eliminating wasteful spending – especially in the Obama era of huge deficits and historic debt.

As your Comptroller, I have saved $40 million in government spending. Before that, I found $8 million in efficiencies in my own agency’s budget – because thriftiness starts by cleaning your own house. On my third day in office I put detailed expenditures of my agency online, down to the price of pencils. All agencies have followed my lead and posted spending on the Internet.

Whether I am making government more transparent, or finding savings buried in agency budgets, I am committed to being a fiscal hawk because it is your money. And when we spend your money, we want it to be put to the highest and greatest use, which is why I have focused on improving education in Texas. We must prepare our young Texans for the workforce of the future, putting more dollars in the classroom.

Re-elect Susan CombsAs I look to the future, I ask for your help in pulling off one more resounding victory. We can’t take anything for granted in a year with so much at stake on the ballot. If you supported my campaign in the past, I am very thankful for your support. However, I would like to ask you to sign up at http://www.susancombs.com/join to tell us how you can help my re-election. I cannot do this alone, so please consider signing up today!

I want to be the fiscal conservative leader that Texans need as Comptroller because we may have a rough road ahead. From a budgetary standpoint, the next legislative session could be much more difficult than the one that just concluded. It is all the more reason to elect proven, fiscally conservative leadership. I want to scour the budget for additional savings, make our state buildings and facilities more energy efficient, direct as much of our education money into the classroom, and provide the kind of economic data and analysis needed to ensure Texas’ leaders invest in jobs and growth.

There is so much that needs to be done, and it starts with winning a second term.

Sincerely,
Susan
