Susan Combs: A Lady Of Her Word

Guest Contributor: John Larrison, SREC SD 21 Committeeman

I have found Susan Combs to be a lady of her word. She does what she says she will do. We don’t always get that from our politicians these days.

My first encounter (yes encounter) was back when she was Agriculture Commissioner. In addition to my political activities, I am also president of the largest retail water supplier in Wilson County, SS Water Supply Company. Susan had written an article in support of a change in the manner used to approve dedicated areas for Water Supply Companies. It would have had a negative impact of the operation of water supply companies and favor large developers. I contacted her and we had a thorough discussion on the pros and cons of the situation. She was then open to a more in-depth discussion with our Texas Rural Water Association (TRWA). Once she learned the whole picture, she “softened” her position on the issue. You can TALK to this Lady – She will LISTEN.

Now as Comptroller of our tax dollars, she has done as she said she would. Implemented many changes to save us all some tax dollars. As a real life rancher, she has learned about business and watching your dollars. Many of the changes she has implemented may look like small saving, but she has made many of these. Pennies add up to dollars and dollars add up to those numbers we hear like Millions. Susan has made an impact and will continue to do so.

We hear the word “transparency” many times in political rhetoric. Susan has implemented and is expanding programs which give the voters and taxpayers a look into many of the State’s financial records. She makes things happen – GOOD things, for you and me. It’s very easy for me to support a person like this.
